YULIANG LIU (YUYU)

YuLiang Liu, more widely known as YUYU, is a contemporary visual artist based in Berlin, Germany. Liu’s multidisciplinary practice spans photography, digital manipulation, generative AI, and immersive installations, with a focus on exploring marginalised narratives of queer and othered bodies in the context of traditional art history. By appropriating and reinterpreting historical and performative motifs, YUYU critically examines colonial and postcolonial dynamics, challenging entrenched social norms and Western cultural values.

Born in Taiwan (1988), Liu pursued his academic studies in architecture, earning a B.A. from FengChia University and an M.A. from TungHai University. His transition from architecture to visual arts is characterised by the merging of spatial awareness with conceptual depth. YUYU’s works have been widely exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at prominent art venues across the globe, including Berlin, Paris, Seoul, and New York. His art has been acquired by significant collections, notably the Tom of Finland Foundation in Los Angeles, and his digital creations have garnered attention at high-profile auctions such as Sotheby’s in Hong Kong. Liu’s influence extends beyond the gallery, as he regularly participates in discussions on the intersection of art, digital innovation, and social equality, with speaking engagements at leading art and tech conferences worldwide.
